In March, WhatsApp released a useful content sharing feature for iOS users that made the share sheet menu on iPhones to show WhatsApp contact suggestions. The functionality enabled users to share content in a simpler way by tapping the name on the list and tap on the send button.
Although the new feature became popular among most iPhone users in an instant, it appears like it was not welcomed by everyone due to the fact that it sometimes reportedly crashed. Now, the company has allegedly disabled the ‘Contact Suggestions’ feature for iOS devices.
As per WABetaInfo, the change has been implemented with the iOS 2.20.42 update, with the purpose of preventing the share sheet crash in particular situations after the update, the segment only displays the WhatsApp icon, which users must tap in order to share content with their contacts.
Share Sheet Contact Suggestions Could Return
At he same time, numerous users have reported that the functionality was working perfectly for them, and they are disappointed with the change.
“What??? My phone never crashed. I love this feature; I’m kinda disappointed they are removing it instead of fixing it,” said a WhatsApp user on Twitter.
The fact that the feature has been temporarily removed doesn’t mean that it is entirely disabled from WhatsApp for iOS users. It is rather likely that the share screen contact suggestions would be back in a forthcoming update.
In particular, there were WhatsApp users that previously claimed that the most part of their contacts and groups did not seem to load on their smartphones. WhatsApp is probably working to solve this issue as well, and we can expect a patch to roll out soon.
This is not the first time that iOS users have faced such problems. Back in December, a bug in the Facebook-owned messaging app made it crash on numerous devices. However, the developers have since fixed the issue.
