The novel coronavirus pandemic has changed the way we live our lives. Most of the people are still in quarantine, and social distancing is again playing a major factor in preventing the spread of the COVID-19 virus. However, we can even communicate with our friends and relatives via social media and video calling apps. Services, such as Zoom, Google Meet, WhatsApp, and Telegram, have become very popular lately.
During this time, these types of apps come in handy to keep our relationships going. However, Telegram wants to rise above the other apps. One of the most important things about these apps is the security, and that is where Telegram will work on. The company behind the app will focus on security more thoroughly via secure group video calls. That will happen sometime this year.
“Video calls in 2020 are much like messaging in 2013. There are apps that are either secure or usable, but not both. We’d like to fix that,” Telegram wrote in a blog post.
Secure video call features to come to Telegram
Privacy is a huge thing when it comes to everything, especially apps. Take Zoom, for example. This app is facing lots of issues in terms of privacy, a reason why they now have a security council. Zoom app will also release updates in order to fix these problems, but what is done is done. This offers a chance to its competitors to climb up, and Telegram is not wasting the time.
Looking at the track record of Telegram, we don’t see any major issues. The app has a solid record, and it can be trusted. The app offers the option of deleting messages, and it also has a feature that protects the users’ identity. Telegram has 400 million monthly users! The app has grown with 100 million users more, compared to the last year.
There is no official confirmation regarding how many users can be on a video call at the same time. However, we can other video call apps increasing the number of group calls. WhatsApp, for example, can now support eight users in a group call. We also don’t know when the new feature will be available on Telegram, but we know it is on the way.
