Orion Hosts an Oddly Askew Protoplanetary System With Three Stars

‚ÄčA cloud of dust and gas whirling around an infant star system 1,300 light-years away is so unique that researchers say it cannot be likened to anything they’ve seen so far. It has three rings, wrapped around three stars, and the rings all have different orientations, with the innermost extremely misaligned from the other two. It is the first direct proof that such imbalance, also known as ‘disc tearing,’ and predicted in modeling, can take place in the cosmos. However, as per the observations taken by the Atacama Large Millimeter-submillimeter…

Astronomers Discover Giant Planet Orbiting A Small Star

Scientists have detected a Jupiter-like planet spinning around an incredibly small star, approximately 31 light-years away. The planet is so enormous that it can’t have taken form the same way most planets do. Juan Carlos Morales from the Autonomous University in Barcelona, Spain, and fellow researchers detected the planet, dubbed GJ 3512 b, with the radial velocity technique. This method exploits the fact that as a planet spins off around its star, the star travels moderately in a way that enables astronomers to establish the planet’s mass and rotation trajectory.…

Our Sun Could Devour The Earth In The Future

Often, stars amaze us by consuming whole planets, which has a peculiar effect on it, including it to start collapsing away. If those effects could be understood, scientists could determine how different types of planetary systems come to life. Various planets in the Universe end up devoured by their stars, either because they fly too close to each other, or because the stars widen up as the years pass by. Astronomers have found some proof of this, such as leftover waste and stars full of matter they could not retain…
