Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 Release Date Revealed

The Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 may be scheduled to launch together with the Galaxy Note 20 this summer, a new report says. Still, we might have to wait a bit more before we are able to buy the tech giant’s second model of foldable smartphone that opens like a book.

It is widely presumed that the upcoming Samsung product event will be online-only, and will reveal the Galaxy Note 20, Samsung’s new series of smartphones, and a few other devices. One of those expected announcements is the Galaxy Fold 2, the next foldable phone. A new rumor claims August 5th to be the date for Samsung’s product reveal.

However, just because the Galaxy Fold 2 may be announced at the same event as the Note 20, it doesn’t mean the devices will be available at the same time. Reputable leaker Max Weinbach, who has been the impetus for most Galaxy Fold 2 rumors, revealed that the foldable phone could be available in mid-September

Weinbach says he bases his ‘guess’ on a code that seems to imply the Galaxy Fold 2 software builds have begun. The timing of those developments makes it improbable that the foldable phone would be ready for purchase at the same time Samsung announces it; therefore, the release is anticipated to happen a month or so later.

The software build suggests another feasible feature for the Galaxy Fold 2, which is expected to pack 5G connectivity. The code specifically cites Verizon, which could mean that the foldable phone will be able to connect to the carrier’s mmWave-based array. The leaker is not sure the Galaxy Fold 2 will be unlocked for Verizon only, or if the wireless carrier will sell the phone.

The forthcoming Galaxy Fold 2 is said to sport larger displays, both inside and outside the phone, and it seems like a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC will power it. According to numerous rumors, the Fold 2 will probably have the same camera setup as the Galaxy S20, with Samsung reportedly adding an S Pen to the foldable series.
