Looking at the Galaxy Fold smartphone produced by Samsung, we can see where the mobile phone market is slowly heading in the future. Of course, this foldable smartphone is just a niche device, which means that it is not intended for everyone. But, it does step up the game, at least for Samsung. The company has been focusing on the display quality for quite a few years now, and it will take them another few years to get it right. Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 is still a work in progress. Its large screen that divides in two needs more adjustings, but we are pretty confident that Samsung will figure all out.
Because this is a new technology, a new approach in terms of the design, the company had to postpone the first batches of the foldable device due to some problems that have surfaced. Many things need to be taken into consideration when it comes to a new product; therefore, Samsung decided to put Galaxy Fold for sale later, after the issues got fixed. However, even after the company fixed some of the design-related problems, people were not keen on buying this product—a big part of the reason why is because of its high price.
Earlier this year, the company released the Galaxy Z Flip. This is the second foldable mobile phone produced by Samsung. Many people believe that this device is the second generation of the Galaxy Fold smartphone; however, that is not true. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is a clamshell smartphone. It is said to have a different hardware design than the previously foldable phone released.
But, the real Galaxy Fold 2 is not that far away. Samsung is working on the second Galaxy Fold generation, and we will probably find out more in the next few months. However, there a few things that we do know about Galaxy Fold 2, and we are going to share them with you. Without further ado, let’s go into details.
Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 News
The internet has its ways to everything. It has become normality to find out details about products that haven’t been released yet. The same story applies to the upcoming Galaxy Fold 2. A few details about the next foldable device have leaked online, which gives us a fair amount of information to form certain expectations. Let’s see what we can expect from the upcoming Galaxy Fold. According to a recent report, the codename of the future mobile phone is ‘Winner 2.’ This is an explicit confirmation of the Galaxy Fold successor.
Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 Release Date
The opinions about the release date of the upcoming foldable smartphone are split. Some reports say that the smartphone will be released sometime during July, others believe that it will be launched in August or maybe September. There is also the possibility that Galaxy Fold 2 will be released on the same date as the Galaxy Note 20. However, if there one thing clear from all these reports, is that the next Galaxy Fold flagship will come out this year.
Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 Design Rumors
When it comes to the construction method used on the upcoming foldable phone from Samsung, opinions are divided once again. That’s the thing about rumors, I guess. However, most of the reports say that the company is going to use a new method, especially when it comes to the display if the smartphone.
Let’s see what SamMobile claims. But before that, we need to mention that the first Galaxy Fold display was made of transparent polyimide, while for the Galaxy Z Flip screen, Samsung used UTG. According to the tech community, the upcoming Galaxy Fold 2 display will be made of a) transparent polyimide and Ultra-Thin Glass, or b) just UTG. That means that we might look at a thinner and more practical display for the Fold 2 model; however, the dimensions are still unknown at the moment.
The second variant, the display made of UTG, raises a few concerns. In terms of durability, the transparent polyimide screens are much more resistant than the UTG. We can’t wait and see how Samsung will combine these two materials; if the rumor turns out to be true. In terms of the color variants, according to @MaxWinebach, a tipster on Twitter, we might see a Ceramic option of the Galaxy Fold 2. The color option includes Blue, Silver, Gold, Pink, and Black.
Many reports say that the upcoming foldable model will feature a 7.7-inch screen. Some reports say that Samsung is looking for an 8-inch display. However, most fingers point at the 7.7-inch display, that will feature the Infinity V display. As this mobile phone is a flagship, it will feature the refresh rate of 120 Hz, coupled with QXGA+ resolution.
The rumor has it that Galaxy Fold 2 is sporting a secondary display. The so-called external display features about 6.4-inches, coupled with AMOLED panel with a Full HD+ resolution. If the rumor about the under-display front camera turns out to be true, Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 will definitely get more recognition.
Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 Camera Details
Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 is said to feature Galaxy’s S20 Plus camera. That means that we might look at a 64MP primary telephoto sensor, coupled with two 12MP cameras that have a wide and ultrawide feature. Plus, a TOF 3D or DepthVision sensor.
Other reports are saying that Galaxy Fold 2 will feature a triple camera set up that consists of a 64MP primary sensor, a 16MP sensor, and a 12MP sensor. If Galaxy Fold 2 is featuring the dual optical image stabilization underneath, it means game over for the other smartphones that will be released this year. That in terms of the camera only.
However, some of the rumors are being taken too far and say that the primary camera sensor will feature 108MP as on the S20 Ultra model. In terms of the front-facing camera, we might see an under-display model. But, it is more than likely that Samsung will opt for the hole-punch camera as they did for the S20 flagships.
Other rumors include the existence of an S Pen, with support for the stylus. Plus, the stylus is said to be a more advanced version than what we have seen so far on the market.
Under the hood, the Galaxy Fold 2 is going to be powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 865 SoC, which is coupled with a 5G modem. Same as the original Galaxy Fold, the second version will feature 512GB of non-expandable internal storage coupled with 12GB of RAM.
The Galaxy Fold 2 is said to feature an optical under-display fingerprint scanner, which makes sense if you take a peek at the S20 series. It will definitely feature a USB C port and lack the 3.5mm headphone jack.
In terms of the life battery, we expect Galaxy Fold 2 to be fueled by a larger battery than the 4,380 mAh used on its predecessor. The upcoming mobile phone will definitely feature the fats charging tech. It is expected from a flagship smartphone. As you can see, there are many opinions regarding the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Fold 2. However, one thing for sure is that the phone is on the way.
