The OnePlus Z could feature some incredibly powerful specs for a ‘budget’ smartphone, new information revealed by a paid survey question. That could definitely be tough to compete with for the mid-range phone manufacturers, including the forthcoming Google Pixel 5.
A user on the Indian shopping forum DesiDime posted an image of a question claiming it was part of a PayBack survey. The question asks if they’d consider purchasing an OnePlus smartphone for 24,990 rupees (approx. $330) with certain specs. Those specs are similar to what we already expect for the OnePlus Z, previously referred to as the OnePlus 8 Lite.
Moreover, Android Central has reported that the OnePlus Z will be released in India on July 10th, which means a launch in the United States as the United Kingdom won’t be too far either.
OnePlus Z’s Rumored Specs
The price of the phone sounds extremely cheap, but OnePlus gets a massive discount off of its devices in India, a benefit offered by the Indian government in return for manufacturing the smartphones in the country. For a brief comparison, the Google Pixel 3a’s price is ₹40,000, or $529, while the iPhone SE 2 sells for ₹42,500, or $562. We’d, therefore, expect at least a $150 increase in price for the Western market.
The features show a triple rear camera with a 64MP main lens, a 16MP ultra-wide sensor, and a 2MP macro lenses, while the front module packs a 16MP sensor in a punch-hole in the 6.55-inch AMOLED display. The phone may also feature an in-display fingerprint sensor and a 90Hz refresh rate, which is rather exquisite for a budget phone.
The CPU is the expected Snapdragon 765, which will make the OnePlus Z more powerful that the Google Pixel 4a, which packs the Snapdragon 730 SoC, but not more powerful than the iPhone SE 2020 that runs on the A13 chipset.
This spec could easily put the OnePlus Z at the same level as the Google Pixel 5, which has been said to pack a Snapdragon 765G instead of the Snapdragon 865 to sell at a lower price. The RAM is set at 6GB, and the storage space is 128GB, which is decent considering the price range, even though other rumors have claimed a 12GB of RAM version is also possible.
The battery specs are the best features of the OnePlus smartphone, according to the graphic. With a 4,300mAh battery and 30W fast charging, the device comes with the exact setup you’d get in the OnePlus 8. Although the OnePlus 8 has wireless charging, it only makes sense for OnePlus Z to lack it, given the price.
Overall, these specs make the OnePlus Z sound like a powerful rival for Apple and Google, but adding so many great features into the phone may make it more expensive than the iPhone SE or Pixel 4a, which could discourage some potential customers from buying it.
OnePlus usually has its launches around the world within a couple of weeks of each other, so with the release date for India set for June 10th, we can expect the announcement of a July event in the United States and the United Kingdom as well.
