OnePlus 8T is the upcoming smartphone from OnePlus. The 8 series came out early this year. But looking back at 2019, we see the company released the OnePlus 7 and 7T, followed by the OnePlus 7 Pro the 7T Pro models. However, according to CEO Pete Lau, the company has a different strategy for 2020. Much to some fans’ disappointment, the company won’t release an OnePlus 8 Pro model this year.
Judging by the last year’s strategy, we understand why OnePlus doesn’t want to repeat the same mistakes. There are not many differences between the OnePlus 7 Pro the 7T Pro model. Therefore, fans had no reason to upgrade their smartphones to the 7T variant. The company is doing pretty well in terms of mid-range models. For example, OnePlus Nord is more attractive because of its affordable price. Not to say the company plans to release more budget-friendly smartphones soon.
Although there won’t be any OnePlus 8 Pro model coming out this year, we are waiting for OnePlus 8T to come out. There are many renders about the upcoming model, but we have nicely put all information together to be easier for you to read. Without further ado, here is everything there is to know about the upcoming OnePlus 8T.
OnePlus 8T Release Date
We already know the OnePlus 8T exists for sure. The company officially announced they would release the upcoming smartphone on October 14. However, due to the coronavirus outbreak, they will unveil the 8T via an online event starting at 10 AM ET. According to an Amazon leak, the mobile phone will go on sale pretty soon after its launch. To be more specific, consumers will be able to purchase it, starting on October 20.
However, we should find out more official information about the upcoming smartphone from OnePlus. The company is usually giving bits of information about its forthcoming products on Twitter or other social media platforms. Nevertheless, the OnePlus 8T release is right around the corner.
OnePlus 8T Design
OnePlus T models typically follow a standard pattern. The company doesn’t usually make any design changes to this line up. However, they did remove the headphone jack from the 6T version. Therefore, we don’t expect to see major changes in terms of the upcoming phone’s design.
OnePlus 8 and 8T should be very similar as well. Both smartphones look exactly the same from the front; however, there is a small difference on the back. Based on an image found by a fan, we know 8T sports a different camera housing design, which is more rectangular at the base.
The OnePlus CEO confirmed a few design specs of the upcoming smartphone. We now know 8T features a 6.55-inch AMOLED display coupled with a 120Hz refresh rate. Another worth mentioning detail is the fact that it will come with a new 2.5D flexible screen, which makes the brightness of 1,100 nits achievable. Therefore, owners won’t have any problems using this mobile phone outdoor. 8T will also have smaller display bezels.
OnePlus 8T Specs
The company is usually releasing the T line up to upgrade its standard model to the latest silicon from Qualcomm. This way, fans also get the chance to upgrade their current model. However, OnePlus is using a different strategy this year, which doesn’t include this upgrade anymore. The upcoming T smartphone seems to stick to the old Snapdragon 865 chipset. Although it doesn’t sound that great, it does make sense money-wise. The difference between Snapdragon 865 Plus and its predecessor is not significant. Moving to RAM, the upcoming model will feature 8GB and 12GB configurations. However, the 8T 12GB version is said to come with 128GB and 256GB of storage options.
In terms of the camera, we might see a quad-camera setup. According to the leak reports, the primary lens features a 48MP sensor. The second camera is a 16MP sensor, while the third is a 5MP, followed by the fourth camera, a 2MP sensor. All together, complement a wide, ultra-wide, macro, and portrait lenses. The front-facing camera is said to feature a 32MP sensor. The company may also upgrade the next smartphone model with 8K capture at 960 frames per second feature.
OnePlus 8T features a larger battery than its predecessor. Therefore, the 4,500mAh battery should last longer. According to OnePlus, users will be able to charge their 8T in 39 minutes fully. If you don’t have that much time to waste, the upcoming phone should charge to 58% in about 15 minutes.
Although in the past, the company has coupled its OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition with a 30W Warp Charge adapter, consumers will be pleased to know the upcoming smartphone comes with a new 65W charger. However, it is not very clear at the moment whether the forthcoming 8T will feature fast charging. Let’s just hope the company will be in trend with the new charging method.
The OnePlus 8T will run on the latest Android system, the 11 version, also based on Oxygen OS 11. Future owners will enjoy the new Oxygen OS UI design together with all the tweaks in Android 11 OS starting day one.
OnePlus 8T Price and Availability
Judging by OnePlus smartphones’ history, every new series had a higher price than its previous models. However, the upcoming 8T version might break the tradition. According to Ishan Agarwal, a leaker, the 8GB version will cost about $700, almost $60 less. On the other hand, according to the Amazon leak, the 12GB/256GB model might cost $815. The price is just an estimation; however, it gives us a good indicator of what to expect.
