The first time Razr’s reboot was officially announced was in November 2019. Although it didn’t reveal incredible specs or features – small battery, plastic screen, and all for nearly $1,500, we can say Razr fans welcomed it with excitement. Even Mashable’s reporter Karissa Bell, who was able to get a hands-on look at the Razr, noted in her review that it was worth the wait, and it is “the only foldable phone I’ve actually been excited about.”
Motorola Announces Razr Release Date and Preorders for North America
The company released a statement to the media, in which they announced the release and preorder dates, including a few more details for US buyers: “We are excited to share that, in North America, the Motorola Razr will be available for presale on January 26 exclusively at Verizon, Walmart, and motorola.com; and in stores starting on February 6. Dates for other markets will be announced locally.”
The foldable Razr was expected to launch on December 26th. But as with any other foldable phone – yes, we’re looking at you, Galaxy Fold, complications can appear and delay the launch.
This time, Motorola has announced February 6th as the release date. Preorders will begin on January 26th, and whoever wants to get this clamshell foldable, should expect to pay $1,499. There’s also a 24-month contract for which buyers can pay $62.49/month.
The new Razr from Motorola is their first foldable smartphone, for which they got their inspiration from the original Moto RAZR flip phone. Aside from its foldable 6.2-inch display, it comes with Android 9 and several spec improvements. However, its specs are not premium, and we can easily spot them just by looking at the midrange Snapdragon 710, less performant cameras (16MP primary camera and 5mp selfie camera), and underwhelming battery capacity (2510mAh).
Motorola has announced its new Razr folding smartphone just in time, considering Samsung is getting ready to reveal its own clamshell foldable smartphone called the Galaxy Bloom. And if we are to follow the recent rumors, we could see the Bloom officially announced on February 11th.
Should you buy the Razr? We recommend you wait and see what Samsung has to offer in terms of features and performance and then decide which clamshell smartphone is better.
