iPhone 12 vs.12 Pro series: which should you buy?

Apple will launch its new iPhone 12 lineup on October 23. With all four upcoming models, which one fits your needs? Let’s see the differences between the iPhone 12, 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and 12 Pro Max.

Design

The new Apple smartphone series doesn’t come with the typical iPhone design. On the other hand, it is not as different as the iPhone X, for example. The iPhone 12 series feature antenna lines, which is a new element. Overall, the new models have a nice, smooth, uniform design.

The premium versions come with frosted glass in terms of the display materials used, while the basic models feature a glossy glass. iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max are stainless, while the basic models are aluminum.

Here is the iPhone 12 series thickness:

  • iPhone 12 Mini: 64.2 x 131.5 x 7.4mm
  • iPhone 12: 71.5 x 146.7 x 7.4mm

Performance

The good news is that all new Apple models feature the latest A14 Bionic processor. That means iPhone 12, 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and 12 Pro Max work faster than the previous models. We don’t know anything about the RAM at the moment; however, we don’t have to wait too long to find out.

Camera

All four iPhones use the same front-facing camera sensor, which comes with the following features:

  • 2MP TrueDepth camera
  • f/2.2 aperture
  • Face ID
  • Smart HDR 3
  • Portrait Mode
  • Portrait Lighting
  • Night Mode
  • Deep Fusion

The rear camera is where we can see the most significant differences between the basic and premium models. Here is what iPhone Pro and Pro Max have extra besides the basic versions:

  • camera 1: Ultra Wide, f/2.4
  • camera 2: Wide, f/1.6
  • camera 3 (iPhone 12 Pro): Telephoto, f/2.0
  • camera 3 (iPhone 12 Pro Max): Telephoto, f/2.2

Battery and Charging

There is not much difference between the new models and the iPhone 11 series when it comes to battery life. The basic models can last for about 17 hours. On the other hand, the premium phone versions can last approximately 20 hours. However, we will find out more details once the models are out.

The upcoming iPhone 12 lineup doesn’t come with a charger inside the box. However, the future owners will receive a new Lightning to USB-C cable in order to enable fast charging. Even so, you will an 18W or higher USB-C charger in order to experience the fast charging mode.
