Hearthstone VR Version Could Have Been a Thing, Says Blizzard Artist Hadidjah Chamberlain

Playing a card battle game in VR could sound strange, but think of it: Hearthstone VR! You get to be in that very tavern, look around at the patrons who have gathered to fight each other in a game of Hearthstone.

Blizzard has thought of it too, and they even developed a prototype of the game in VR. Let’s check out some details lead effects artist Hadidjah Chamberlain and Principle Narrative Designer Dave Kosak have shared in an interview with PowerUp Gaming.

Walk Around the Tavern and Play a Game

It was during Blizzard’s annual ‘Free Your Mind’ event when two developers brought a prototype of Hearthstone VR to the event, recalls Hadidjah Chamberlain:

They actually prototyped a VR version of Hearthstone during that time. You could walk around The Tavern and sit down to play a game with someone.

They only had two weeks, so they only got as far [allowing you to] throw cards at the table, and you could flip the table over!”

We Hope That Hearthstone VR Would Become a Reality Soon

The developer has considered that a VR version could have potential since this VR prototype was internally developed.

Dave Kosak learned about the VR prototype but chose not to talk about it since everyone would want to see it and boy, isn’t he right? Kosak added that, although Hearthstone VR would be cool, players would instead use a tablet rather than play it in VR, and maybe he’s right. You cannot deny you would want to walk around the tavern, see familiar faces, and flip some tables for a few weeks.

Hearthstone VR would undoubtedly be the fans’ favorite VR game of all times – but only if table flipping is included! Let’s hope Blizzard will give Hearthstone VR a chance so that we can enjoy it soon.
