The Google Pixel 4a should be revealed next month, but as the launch date approaches, more and more leaks about the tech giant’s next mid-range smartphone surface.
The latest piece of information comes with Pixel 4a renders from phone case manufacturer ESR, which has confirmed what we already knew about the device’s design. The leak has also unveiled the fact that the upcoming Pixel 4a could feature wireless charging.
Possible Wireless Charging
One of the render images utilized in ESR’s promotion called ‘Pixel 4a Metal Kickstand Phone Case’ reveals how the case will enable the phone to be charged on a wireless pad. While we can be skeptical about this for now because these are not official renders, it does show that the upcoming Pixel 4a could feature the wireless abilities the other flagship Google devices have.
This is quite unexpected, as the predecessor phone did not have wireless charging, and no leaks have implied that the Pixel 4a will have this function. However, such an ability would definitely enhance the appeal of the upcoming smartphone, and it would be a better match for the iPhone SE 2020.
The other renders do confirm that the Pixel 4a will sport a single rear camera, probably a 12.2MP lens, placed in a square module, as showcased by previous leaks and rumors. However, this means the phone won’t have the dual rear cameras the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL has.
That means the Google phone could have a camera setup that is more upgraded compared to the regular Pixel devices, rather than a cutdown of the Pixel 4’s rear cameras. Nonetheless, Google’s phone photography capacities are known for their skill of computational photography, which means that Pixel devices usually deliver impressive photos with fewer cameras than other modern smartphones.
The Pixel 4a Should Beat the iPhone SE
The ESR renders also depict the way the Pixel 4a will use a punch-hole camera to feature a display that could measure 5.8 inches, have an OLED panel, and slimmer bezels than the Pixel 4. This could also mean that Google’s Soli chip, used for face unlocking technology, would not be included in this device.
There were no mentions regarding the Pixel 4a’s specs in the ESR listing. Still, based on previous rumors, the Pixel 4a is likely to pack a Snapdragon 730 processor, which offers decent performance, more so if it is combined with 6GB of RAM. The storage specs are expected to start at 128GB, and the battery should be bigger than Pixel 3’s 3,000mAh one.
The Pixel 4a will have to compete with Apple’s iPhone SE released this year when it comes to the best value phone. In spite of being the most affordable iPhone, it has the same high-tech A13 Bionic chip as the iPhone 11, as well as wireless charging, and amazing photography capabilities with its single 12MP rear camera. According to numerous tests on the iPhone SE 2020’s battery, the pack managed a decent nine hours and 18 minutes of life, but which is not enough to be on the best phone battery life list. The Pixel 4a will definitely win at battery life, as well as at camera capabilities.
