Ghost of Tsushima – A Guide on Ghost Techniques

Ghost of Tsushima has Jin Sakai, which is at the core of the events in the game, turning to other methods to save Tsushima from the Mongol invasion. He has to turn his back on the Samurai honor code and become the Ghost, meaning he uses sneaky tactics against rivals, as well as what some in his order would say it is dishonorable.

The Ghost Techniques are split into two categories, and those are Ghost Weapons and Evolving Tactics. The first category allows Jin to attack from the shadows and turn the tide in this favor if the opposition grows. The Evolving Tactics enable Jun to survey a region and decrease enemy numbers before a fight starts.

Most of these methods will take away points to unlock through some, such as Ghost Stance, and are connected to the progression of the story. Here are the techniques you can use in Ghost of Tsushima and how they work:

Ghost Weapons

Kunai

This weapon consists of small blades that can be thrown at close enemies to surprise them. Use R2 and Left to equip and Left analog and R1 to throw. The first upgrade of the weapon is the Hidden Blade, which can throw an extra Kunai. The second upgrade is the Serrated Blades, which enables Kunai to produce twice as much damage.

Black Powder Bomb

Players can throw explosives with this weapon, that damages and staggers rivals. L2 and Left can be used to select a throw, L2, and R2 to throw, and L2 and Circle to equip a bomb. The first upgrade consists of Concussive Blast, which knocks down enemies hit by the shockwave of the bomb. The second upgrade is the Explosive Shrapnel, which adds shrapnel to the bomb, increasing damage and blast extent.

Smoke Bomb

Smoke Bomb allows you to produce a thick cloud of smoke, which makes the rivals lose sight of you. Use R2 and Down to equip and R1 to throw. The first upgrade of the weapon includes Blinding Dust, which makes the bomb temporarily blind enemies trapped in the blast, and the smoke to last longer. The second upgrade has Healing Incense, making the smoke bomb fumes restore some of the player’s health.

Sticky Bomb

You can throw a pitch covered bomb that sticks to your rival, using R2 and Up to equip and Left analog and R1 to throw. The weapon’s first upgrade consists of Guarded Throw, which protects you from a bomb’s second blast, while the second upgrade, Explosive Power, makes one direct hit to kill the target, causes a bigger blast range, and produces more damage on rivals trapped in the blast.

Evolving Tactics

Recover Health

Players can regain a decent amount of health at the cost of one resolve with this tactic. The upgrade of it, Iron Will, makes it possible for you to save yourself from defeat when wounded by using two resolve to revive.

Standoff

With Standoff, you can challenge enemies to a one-on-one showdown. Press Up to challenge unsuspecting rivals and hold Triangle, then release when the enemy attacks; if successful, it will restore three resolve.

The tactic’s first upgrade is the Standoff Streak, which will make one rival rush in and open themselves to a killing bow after a successful standoff. It also provides additional resolve on success. The second upgrade is an Improved Standoff Streak, which, after successful use of the tactic, makes two enemies rush in and open themselves to a killing bow. This upgrade also grants extra resolve if successful.

Archery

Archery is able to harness the Way of the Bow; use L2 to aim and R2 to fire. Concentration is the first upgrade of the tactic, which shortly slows time when aiming to enhance accuracy and activates on the R3 button. The second upgrade, Mental Fortitude, reduces Concentration cooldown by 15 percent, and the third upgrade, Improved Mental Fortitude, reduces Concentration cooldown by 30 percent.

Assassination

This tactic lets you kill unsuspecting enemies with a quiet and violent stealth attack. When near or above unaware rivals, simply press Square to use Assassination. The first upgrade consists of Safe Landing, which allows you to roll before landing in order to avoid damage from almost all falls. To activate it, press Circle before landing.

The second upgrade, Chain Assassination, kills two nearby enemies in quick succession and works by pressing Triangle. Chain Assassination Master is the third upgrade of the tactic, which kills up to three nearby targets, and which can also be initiated by pressing Triangle.

Focused Hearing

With this tactic, you can detect nearby enemies by sound; to focus press Touchpad. The first upgrade, Far Hearing, can identify more distant rivals by listening with deeper focus. Stealth Hearing is the second upgrade, which moves faster than the original tactic. The third upgrade, Killer’s Instinct, enables you to see a flashing aura around Assassination targets when their teammates are notified by their deaths.

Shoji Assassination

Players can assassinate a rival behind a shoji door with this technique. To initiate it, simply press Square near an unsuspecting enemy.

Ghost Stance

Ghost Stance allows you to approach enemy leaders while in stealth to Slaughter them and get into Ghost Stance. Once arrived in Ghost Stance, you can eliminate up to three rivals with deadly attacks. The Ghost Kill Streak tactic allows you to kill seven enemies without suffering damage to enter Ghost Stance.
