Facebook releases cloud-based games on Android and PC, but what about iOS?

Facebook has finally launched its “cloud gaming” service. The company has released a large number of cloud-streamed games today that users can access via the Facebook app. The service allows the players to play cloud-based games without having to download or install them. At the moment, the Facebook Gaming service is available on Android and the PC platform.

However, the giant seems to want to make one thing very clear: the new introduction is not a spin-off of a cloud gaming service.

“But first, I want to clarify what we’re not doing: we’re not spinning off a separate cloud gaming service. All cloud-streamed games are playable in the same way you play games now on Facebook — whether it’s in our Gaming tab or from News Feed. No special hardware or controllers needed – your hands are the controllers since we’re launching with native mobile games.”

Facebook gaming is not ready for full release just yet; however, if you wish to try out the beta version, access this link. You can test it on either the Android or Web platform. Among the latest cohort of games are:

  • Asphalt 9: Legends,
  • Mobile Legends: Adventure by Moonton,
  • PGA TOUR Golf Shootout,
  • Solitaire: Arthur’s Tale,
  • WWE SuperCard.

According to the company, users will be able to enable the cross-play between the Facebook Login and the downloaded game. In terms of the upcoming games, Facebook also wants to include the Dirt Bike Unchained.

The company will introduce a new feature that will allow the users to customize their own avatar for the first time. The player will be able to change their in-game name as well. That means when you’re playing these games, people won’t see your profile picture and full name, but your player name and avatar instead.

Facebook made other adjustments to the new gaming service in order to improve the game experience. The company’s Cloud Playable Ads is coming to the US and will run on Android and iOS. The new cloud-streamed games can run as apps on Android devices. However, they are not eligible for the Apple products running on iOS or iPadOS. The reason seems to be the App Store guidelines. But, it could all change in the near future.

“We’re not on iOS right now, which is a big problem for us. We are barred from having Facebook launch the browser and play the game. Apple treats games differently and continues to exert control over a very precious resource,” said the Vice President of Facebook Play, Jason Rubin.
