People have wondered for centuries if there is complex life on other planets, and many claim to have seen aliens or just their advanced flying machines. Of course, it’s easy to suppose that the UFO sightings were just the result of human imagination, illness, fatigue or mere will of receiving attention. But is that the case for all the sightings?
What lies in Area 51?
What about the famous Area 51? There has been a lot of debating around the subject of Area 51 harboring alien equipment and settlement.
It all started in 1955 when the CIA was looking for a secure location to test the Lockheed U-2 spy plane. That location became what is now Area 51.
The first UFO sighting in the U.S. happened on June 24, 1947, just a week before the Roswell accident where dead alien bodies resembling humans were found by a rancher. Coincidence or not, only three years later Area 51 was born.
Area 51 has never been declared a secret base, but all research and occurrences in this area are Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI). The CIA publicly acknowledged the existence of the base for the first time on June 25, 2013, following a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request filed in 2005, and they declassified documents detailing the history and purpose of Area 51.
The Facebook effect
Many people would want to know what’s happening in Area 51 and why the authorities don’t allow access in that place. Most of them believe in the aliens regarding conspiracy. A Facebook event made by a guy from Bakersfield, California proved to us what’s the public opinion regarding the famous area.
“I just created a joke while I was playing video games man,” event creator Matty Roberts said. “It’s taken off into this absolutely wild monster.”
Roberts created a Facebook page called “Storm Area 51: They can’t stop us all”. The event page grew to over two million people saying they were attending.
Officials expected up to 30.000 people to come out to Rachel and Hiko, Nevada, small towns north of Las Vegas. No more than 4000 people total attended the two desert events.
And no one actually stormed the gates, but there were several misdemeanor arrests.
Will we ever find out what’s inside Area 51? Whether we humans represent the only intelligent life in the Universe or not, we have to admit that both scenarios are equally frightening.
