Animal Crossing: New Horizons is set to receive the second summer update on July 30th, also known as the ‘Wave 2 update,’ which will bring two major gameplay additions. The ability to dream is one of them, as The Verge reports, and new fireworks shows is the other.
The Update Comes With Two New Abilities
For Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, a cloud backup system is also going to be implemented, so you won’s lose your island. When it comes to the dreaming ability, Nintendo says players will be able to take a nap in any bed in their in-game house.
“While dozing off, you may find yourself in a strange realm where you’ll be greeted by Luna,” the developers explain.
“Luna offers visits to other islands as a dream, and with her help, you can share your island as a dream with others too. She will grant those who share their island a ‘Dream Address,’ which players can exchange and use to visit each other’s island in a dream. In dreams, nothing is permanent because nothing you do is saved, so explore to your heart’s content,” Nintendo says about the upcoming feature.
In the meantime, the fireworks show will be a common occurrence in August, more precisely every Sunday evening throughout the month, at 7.00 p.m. local time. Players will be able to purchase raffle tickets during these events in order to earn various prizes.
The Cloud Saving Feature
Still, the most significant part of the update could be the long-expected option to back up islands via cloud saves. Here is how Nintendo describes the feature:
“Nintendo Switch Online members can enable the new island backup service, which automatically uploads island and user save data to the internet at certain times. If your Nintendo Switch system is lost or damaged, you may be able to recover your island paradise as long as you’ve enabled island backup. In the event of loss or damage, contact Nintendo Consumer Support about restoring the island and user save data on your new or repaired Nintendo Switch system. After your island data and individual player data is restored, you can get back to building your island community.”
Although the ‘may be able to recover your island paradise’ phase doesn’t sound like a strong guarantee, it is better than nothing. This feature is separate from the Save Data’ functionality offered for certain Nintendo Switch games, so you should not mix them.
In addition, reports say that the company announced a function specific to Animal Crossing: New Horizons players to move them and save data to another system, which is planned for later this year. All we have to do is to wait for more details, which will be shared in the future.
This marks the second major summer update for the popular Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The first was the landmark addition of swimming, at the beginning of July. The game was released on March 20th, 2020, and sold five million digital copies in the first month only. This makes it one of the most popular and revenue-bringing titles in the last few years.
